FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF ENCAPSULATION?
After I transport your placenta to the workspace, there are two preparation methods that I offer:
Traditional Method is loosely based off a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method and involves steaming the placenta first and then dehydrating it. This is the preferred method from an infection control point of view. You may like me to add herbs (lemon, ginger, chili pepper) to the steaming process according to the TCM method, however as I do not hold qualifications in TCM, I cannot diagnose or treat specific conditions using herbs. To read more about the TCM method and it's history, please visit my Blog.
The other method I offer is Raw. This involves dehydrating the placenta at a low heat setting for a longer period of time.
The pros and cons of each method are outlined in my Blog, including the limited research surrounding both methods.
Once the placenta has dehydrated, it is then processed into a fine powder and encapsulated.
HOW DO I STORE MY PLACENTA?
When you have birthed your placenta, please make sure that it gets double bagged firstly. Non-leaking plastic bags, such as large ziplock bags will be sufficient for this.
Then, your placenta needs to be cooled within 2 hours, either in a refrigerator or in an esky or cooler filled with ice. Most healthcare professionals are more than happy to help you with your placenta packaging requests.
Don't forget to call me, so that I may pick it up from you and start processing!
